There are also a large number of stamping parts in products such as instruments, household appliances, bicycles, office machinery, and living utensils.

Compared with castings and forgings, stamping parts are thin, uniform, light and strong. Stamping can make workpieces with reinforcement, ribs, undulations or flanges that are difficult to manufacture by other methods to improve their rigidity. Due to the use of precision dies, the accuracy of workpieces can reach micron level, and with high repetition accuracy and consistent specifications, holes nests and tabs can be stamped out.

Cold stamped parts are generally no longer processed by cutting, or only a small amount of cutting is required. The precision and surface condition of hot stamped parts are lower than those of cold stamped parts, but they are still better than castings and forgings, and the cutting process is less.

Stamping is a highly efficient production method. By using compound die, especially multi-station progressive die, multiple stamping processes can be completed on one press, and fully automatic production from uncoiling, leveling, punching and cutting to forming and finishing can be realized. With high production efficiency, good labor conditions and low production cost, it can generally produce hundreds of pieces per minute.

Stamping is mainly classified by process, which can be divided into two categories: separation process and forming process. The purpose of the separation process, also called punching, is to separate the stamped parts from the sheet along a certain contour line and to ensure the quality of the separated section. The surface and inherent properties of the stamped sheet have a great influence on the quality of the finished stamped product. The stamped material is required to be of precise and uniform thickness; to have a smooth surface without spots, scars, abrasions, surface cracks, etc.; to have uniform yield strength without obvious directionality; to have high uniform elongation; to have low flexural strength ratio; and to have low work hardening.
